One of my favorite electronic groups is doing the Treasure Island Music Festival in October... when I am going to be all the way out in Zanzibar.
Last time this happened was in 2009 when I saw they were going to be playing Le Poisson Rouge in NYC one night before I left for Brazil.
Will I ever see Cut Copy live?

TREASURE ISLAND ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
We are less than 5 weeks away from the 2011 Treasure Island Music Festival and the buzz is growing more tangible each day. This year's artists have been pretty busy the last few weeks; between St. Vincent's latest record, Death Cab's new single and new videos from Cut Copy and Battles, we figured we'd clue you in on the latest highlight from this year's artists:
 |
DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE
Death Cab for Cutie will be appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman September 28. Tune in to hear their most recent single "Stay Young, Go Dancing" and imagine what it'll be like when they play the closing set in the middle of San Francisco Bay.

 |
CUT COPY
Cut Copy just released the music video for the single "Blink and You'll Miss A Revolution". Brace yourself for cavemen holding the limbs of Cut Copy while they blast through this amazing song. We can't promise any cavemen will be at Treasure Island this year, but we can promise Cut Copy will be equally amazing live.

DIZZEE RASCAL
Ever since collaborating with Shakira last year Dizzee Rascal has been flying under the radar (ahem, new album in 2012?); however TI attendees are going to get their Dizzee fix in a very rare performance that will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the weekend.

STEPHEN MALKMUS & THE JICKS
Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks have just released their latest record, Mirror Traffic. If you haven't checked it out, head down to Amoeba and pick up a copy. It was produced by Beck and also features Janet Weiss's final contribution before joining the super group, Wild Flag.
|
 |
ST. VINCENT
Pitchfork hit it right on the nose when they gave St. Vincent a 9.0 and a "Best New Music" for her most recent LP Strange Mercy. Listen to the track Surgeon and read the glowing review here.

 |
BATTLES
Battles have a new video for their track "My Machines" featuring Gary Numan ("Cars"). It's a fun video to watch, but it must have been painful for the actor—kudos to any man who can tumble down an escalator for 3 1/2 minutes.

 |
WEEKEND
Local heroes, Weekend, are releasing their new EP, Red, on September 20th through Slumberland Records. Stream the track Hazel off the as-of-now-unreleased EP now on Soundcloud (on a separate note, bring ear plugs!)
