Google Chrome is waaaaay faster than Firefox

Wow, my ignorant bias against Google has kept me from trying the superior product for nearly a year.  A YEAR!  I could have had such a more pleasurable browsing experience but no.... I had to hate on all things Google.  Well, just like Google Search, GMail and Google Maps, Chrome lives up to its hype.  I will be using it as my default browser going forward.  Let me know if I am making a mistake here.

Hungerstrike

Man, I just remembered how much I loved to rock out to this track in high school.  Temple of the Dog was a short lived super group led by Chris Cornell, the lead singer of Soundgarden, and members of soon-to-be-formed, Pearl Jam (i.e. Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard and Matt Cameron).

Here are the killer lyrics...

I don't mind stealing bread
From the mouths of decadence
But I can't feed on the powerless
When my cup's already overfilled,
But it's on the table
The fire is cooking
And they're farming babies
While slaves are working
Blood is on the table
And the mouths are choking
But I'm growing hungry

I don't mind stealing bread
From the mouths of decadence
But I can't feed on the powerless
When my cup's already overfilled
But it's on the table
The fires cooking
And they're farming babies
While the slaves are all working
And it's on the table
The mouths are choking
But I'm growing hungry
I'm going hungry

I am definitely planning to catch another Pearl Jam concert at the Gorge when I move back to Seattle (someday).

Weekend Cooking with Jessica

This weekend Jessica and I cooked several tasty meals.  I am currently trying to get back into cooking and save more of my disposable income, so making meals at home instead of going out kinda kills two birds with one stone.

For dinner on Saturday, we made sweet potato gnocchi topped with sauteed arugula and hazelnuts.  The wine we had with the meal was the '07 Castle Rock Pinot Noir from Sonoma.  Very tasty.  Thank you to whoever brought that over as a housewarming gift.

Today we had a breakfast pizza which was an interesting departure from our normal breakfast fare.  Basically we took the ingredients of a normal egg scramble breakfast (eggs, mushrooms, spinach, cheese, olives, toast) and rearranged them into a pizza breakfast.  It was delicious.

Let me know if you want the recipe for either of these meals.  Both are vegetarian.

Too Big of an Asshole to Fail

"New York Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin spotted this license plate in Greenwich, Conn. It traces to a vice chairman at TARP beneficiary Morgan Stanley."

This pisses me off to no end.  I hope it is a hoax but given the tremendous greed and selfishness of the finance industry (that I, myself work in) and of wealthy Americans in general, I would not at all be surprised that this is for real.

I keep asking myself why did we need to bail out these banks?  Why didn't they force the "too big to fail" banks to auction off pieces of their operations to smaller banks until they were no longer too big to fail?  The big banks in this country are bigger than ever after gobbling up the failures like Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Merril Lynch, Wachovia and Countrywide.  Did you know that Goldman Sachs is going to pay their employees $14 billion in bonuses this year?  If they were going to be this profitable, why did we sell them back those warrants we bought from them through the TARP?  Warren Buffet didn't sell back his.  And so on...

But I know the answer to these questions - ...Corruption.  Plain and simple.  Just remember this license plate in a few years when our jobless recovery turns into massive inflation that erodes your savings and makes mortgages totally unaffordable.
