Sunny Days in Seattle

Yep, no lie, there are actually sunny days in Seattle.  Specifically between the months of July and August.   You might get a few in June and September but don't count on it.

We spent the sunny days this weekend in Ballard, Queen Anne and downtown Seattle.  We did breakfast this time at the Queen Anne Cafe after the line at the 5 Spot scared us away ( and my pizza breakfast idea fell through).  Then we tried to do a little bit of a study session down at the super-cool-looking Seattle Public Library but alas it was closed for Labor Day which is fine because we just worked outside at a Cafe Lladro.   Anyway, enjoy the pics...

UW in the Morning

Sitting on the steps of the Henry Suzzalo Library at UW in Seattle, listening to M83 as overcast slides into a slow drizzle. In all the time I was in Seattle I never really walked through this campus. It is actually really beautiful even if the weather isn't. Check out the pics I took from my phone.

I swear, camera phone blogging is totally addictive. Thanks Garry. Thanks Sachin.

The Bonfire of the Vanities

So I just finished reading Tom Wolfe's The Bonfire of the Vanities and wow, reading the end of that book was like slowly watching a train crash into a fuel truck before the whole mess cartwheels off a cliff.  This was obviously Wolfe's intention because no matter how uncomfortable the plot became, I could not stop reading.

The main lessons I learned from this novel are 1) be proactive about your legal defense if you feel you may have committed or been involved in a crime, 2) having nothing to hide is your best defense from slanderous accusations and 3) it is quite possible for even the most strident and passionate outcry against inequality to be motivated by personal gain.

Looking back on similar real-life situations such as the recent Duke rape case, I worry this country may be too ready to rush judgment for the sake of seemingly popular political correctness.

Ok, its definitely time to get off the soapbox and go to sleep....

For all the shoegazers out there...

This track off M83's  new Saturdays = Youth album is absolutely haunting.  If only John Hughs could get in a time machine and lay this cut down for The Breakfast Club's closing credits.  I heard it on a KEXP Morning Show from last week that I was streaming this morning.  I tried downloading the album off the newsgroups with Newsleecher but I just ended up with a bunch of .wav files that wouldn't play properly, so it looks like I will have to actually buy this one off amazon mp3 or itunes.

Lunch @ Marina Submarine

Woohoo! My first mobile post from my smartphone. Lets see if this works.

I can't believe i just waited 20 mins for this beautiful italian sub and now i am fooling around with posting a picture of it on my blog.

The Continental

I've mentioned before how highly I think of Seattle breakfast spots.  One of my top 3 has got to be The Continental at 47th and University in the U district. My old roommate's brother (the jovial bearded fellow, pictured below) first introduced me to this delicious and inexpensive Greek diner.  The other old roommates have always been huge fans as well and then when I met my girlfriend, it turned out that the owners have been close family friends of hers.  So in any case, all of us strongly recommend this spot for breakfast if you are in town.  As for what to get, I would recommend the tomato/pesto omelet, girlfriend would recommend the spinach/mushroom/feta omelet, but in either case, you will have a delicious breakfast.

I ate at the Continental on Saturday morning, but I took these pictures when we went there for a second time on Sunday, after the epic NAFTA party.

Wedding on Whidbey Island

Last weekend, girlfriend and I took the ferry over to Whidbey Island for a wedding for one of her family friends.  As you can probably tell from the pics I took, we had a lot of fun and a lot of wine.
