Lil' Mt. Si back in February

We went hiking back in February and in a feeble attempt to preserve temporal consistency, I thought I'd post the pics now before I post all the Brazil pics. Mt. Si and Little Mt. Si (what we hiked) are located in North Bend WA, twenty minutes east of Seattle. North Bend is where they shot Twin Peaks and we had cherry pie at the diner in town just like they did in the show.

Yppah

That's H-a-p-p-y spelled backwards for you slower ones.  I heard this guy(Joe Corrales Jr)'s music playing in Sonic Boom Records in Capital Hill during my last visit to Seattle, and I quickly realized it was really great stuff.  I find electronic music is appealing to me more and more.  Maybe I am evolving into 21st Century Man (Digitosapian).

Anyway, check it out.  These two tracks are from his first album, You Are Beautiful All The Time.  It's kinda like Radiohead for kids too young to know about Radiohead (minus all the singing, of course).

(whoa, that was deep... dude, quick talking and pass the bong)

Finally, a show about cougars!

God!  I have been waiting so long for this - a show about Cougars!   If you have ever been out drinking at a Cougar Cage (Seattle people think: any bar in Kirkland) then you know what I am talking about.  At these places, there is always a few 41 year old drunk divorcees breathing down your neck.

Finally, someone (TVLand) has made a reality show about these older ladies.  Albeit, this is a tv dating show and does not show the cougar in her natural environment (buying her 19 year old gardener Jaeger bombs), but at least popular culture is owning up to this disappointing phenomenon.

Monster Nicoise Salad

My take on the classic salade nicoise: a bed of arugula/basil, thinly sliced cucumber, tomato, red onion, capers, kalamata olives, hard boiled egg, seared ahi steak, topped with dijon dressing, with a few chunk of focaccia bread.   I've gotten through 2/3rds of it so far.  I think this guy's gonna take a second sitting.

Update: It took until 5:50p but I finally finished it off.  Damn that was good!

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Such a great film.  I just saw it during my recent vacation in Utah.  Kiwi director Andrew Dominik, did a lot of cool stuff with it.  I see this film as a study on guilt from the perspective of both the esteemed criminal, Jesse James and the cowardly murderer, Robert Ford.  Brad Pitt's performance is moving but Casey Affleck's is downright haunting.  I liked the wide shots of western landscapes and the edge blurring camera effects that almost denote that the scene is only dimly remembered by its characters.  The deeply voiced narratation from Hugh Ross adds a nice somber tone and the accents, costumes and set all seem incredibly authentic.

All in all, I highly recommend this one.

Mormon Temple/Corporate HQ in Salt Lake City

My girlfriend and I checked out downtown Salt Lake City before flying out. Temple Square downtown is pretty well decked out Mormon-style. Pretty cool temple architecture. The main temple seems humbled though by the massive church bureaucracy building next to it.
