Congratulations Mom & Dad on 30 years!

This weekend, my siblings and I surprised my parents with a family dinner in downtown West Palm Beach to celebrate their upcoming 30th wedding anniversary.  The restaurant, Top of the Point, occupies the top floor of the Phillips Point building.  The view from up there includes the Intercoastal, the Atlantic, Palm Beach Island and The Breakers Hotel, where my parents spent their wedding night.  The food, wine and dessert were all excellent but their favorite part must have been having everyone together from out of town or possibly the new 47" TV we got them.  : )

Art Battle at Le Poisson Rouge

Whoa, the PicPosterous app is really effective.  I took these pics with my iPhone at this Art Battle back in late March but they have been held hostage on the phone until today when I saw PicPosterous was done.  These Art Battles are actually way cool to watch.  They have all kinds of experimental DJs spinning while two painter dudes go at it.

Anyway, nice work on PicPosterous guys.

Recalling Bainbridge Island

Back in April, my girlfriend and I spent a precious Seattle Saturday hanging out on Bainbridge Island with her mom and mom's boyfriend, Charlie.  Bainbridge is quintessential Pacific Northwest and I took many pictures of the island's lush scenery.  After visiting Seattle at the beginning of the month, I remembered that I hadn't posted these pictures yet so I am finally posting them now.

To get to the island, you take a drive-on ferry from downtown Seattle.  We met at Charlie's house which has an amazing view of the Sound and Seattle's skyline.   His nephew's family (including adorable little Taylor) joined us for hike at this school/preserve on the island called Islandwood.   Islandwood was founded recently in 2001 and is basically a school in a big park that teaches kids on field trips that buildings can be made out of recycled milk jugs and why its bad to dump leaky car batteries into Puget Sound.  After the hike, we made pizzas and drank wine.  It was quite a good day.  I hope to get back there soon.

Interesting Take on the Health Care Debate

Hat tip to Ian Gerstel, this Popular Mechanics interview of medical device innovator, Dean Kamen is pretty interesting.  He is quite contrarian in that he suggests to spend *more* on health care because he feels investing in cures now will save future money that would have had to be spent on treatment later.  When asked if we spend too much on health care, he points out some of the other really important things Americans choose to "invest" in.
